Working with architects Nash Partnership, GLA provided the landscape proposals to connect a new contemporary home to its unique context. Located on the River Thames and within an area of both National Landscape and conservation status, the landscape proposals introduce new ecological habitats and create an illusion that the Thames snakes into the site and up to the proposed building.

This large-scale regeneration project in London involves the detail design of 3 Plots made up of high residential blocks, connected via ground level parking. Our introduction of roof gardens, tree-lined streets, pocket parks and urban spaces will bring a uniqueness to the site. The landscape has been carefully designed to work within the structural constraints of the superstructure through the co-ordination and technical resolution of Level 3 BIM and the use of Revit.

GLA was appointed to help restore one of the last surviving Georgian Pleasure Gardens in the UK. The ambitious scheme included restoration of key heritage assets, a new extensive play area, community pavilion and garden, alongside a new pétanque court and refurbished tennis courts.

Conscious of the Coach House’s historic estate location, GLA have developed proposals to improve the sense of arrival and create a stronger connection between the house and its grounds. Contemporary gardens that reflect the architectural renovations and incorporate ecological enhancements, as well as the creation of new woodland areas. The landscape has been developed to enable modern management techniques in the maintenance of the grounds.

As part of the large scale regeneration of the Water Lane area of Exeter Greenhalgh LA worked closely with the Client and architects Nash Partnership to develop the vision for the Site. Central to the project is creating active and social public realm, with a strong focus on pedestrian and cycle connections.

The Creamery, Somerset

The Creamery, Somerset

The Creamery is part of the Emily Estate associated with The Newt, Somerset. Working alongside the Estate Team and Stonewood Design we developed the landscape and water feature design taking inspiration from the original building completed in 1912. References to the 'Milk Factory' and Arts and Craft period can be found in the hard and soft landscape detailing.

GLA have developed a masterplan for the estate in consultation with Historic England, Cotswold District Council and the Holfords of Westonbirt Trust. New proposals for the estate include new Classrooms within the Walled Garden, site wide infrastructure improvements, historic parkland restoration, a new sports campus and Prep-School.

Greenhalgh LA worked closely with Wilkson Eyre to develop a building that responded to the contours and context of the Site, and captured the generous spirit of cricket with spaces for players and spectators to interact against the back drop of the Somerset landscape.

Cullompton, Devon

GLA is part of a multi-disciplinary team appointed to create a masterplan for the extension (approx. 500 homes) of Cullompton. Our design emphasis was expressing the unique ecological character of the Devon Landscape with public realm proposals that include areas of open space for recreation, woodlands, a play area and street design. Through conducting layers of analysis, we have responded to the existing features to continue the provision of a highly biodiverse site.

Rustington, West Sussex

GLA have prepared detailed landscape proposals for a residential development close to a Grade II listed convalescent care home. The existing garden of the nearby historic building and the sea front location have inspired a series of pocket parks, new tree and ornamental planting, and a central Rustington Square with play strategy. Circulation around the site is enabled by a shared surface approach.

GLA were part of the design team for the planning, design and delivery of three residential development parcels and key areas of public open space as part of the expansive Prince Philip Park. The redevelopment of these former barracks into a NHS England ‘Healthy New Town’ is an innovative and major regeneration project. GLA have utilised mature wooded boundaries and woodland NEAP and have embraced their amenity value through the introduction of pedestrian/cycle paths.

Greenhalgh Landscape Architecture were appointed to design a roof terrace garden for a private and modern home in Bath. The site sits within a Conservation Area, World Heritage Site and in an AONB. The essence of the design is to create a contemporary and contemplative garden that is an extension of the wild hillside into which the house and roof terrace are set.

The Tannery, Wiltshire

The Tannery, Wiltshire

The industrial heritage and conservation area status of this site have presented both constraints and opportunities. GLA developed a masterplan for the partial demolition and regeneration of an existing historic Tannery complex into a mixed-used development focused on work-hubs, studios and community use. Residential development is planned in the adjoining land. Planting strategies provide structure and biodiversity gain, and the inclusion of sculpture, play equipment and street furniture.

Combe Grove, a hotel and members club on the eastern edge of the city of Bath, has been recently purchased by the Elmhurst Foundation. GLA have developed the visionary masterplan, which will activiely enhance both the wildlife and recreational value the Estate has to offer.

GLA have been appointed to develop proposals for a rural work hub that aims to support emerging high tech and creative businesses in the south west. The design responds to distinctive local landforms and field patterns to enable the new development to fit with the wider rural setting. The proposals seek to create an overall biodiversity gain by increasing the existing ecology networks and by creating wetland habitats, green and brown roofs, wet woodland and managed grassland meadows.

GLA have developed proposals for the conversion of the semi derelict Poultry Farm with Mitchell Ely Gould Architects and PlanningSphere. Key to the development is retaining the agricultural aesthetic of the buildings and landscape. New tree planting, managed grassland meadows and natural landscape boundaries will strengthen the surrounding distinctive field patterns and re-establish the agricultural grassland.

We worked with Kersfield Developments to prepare landscape proposals for the redevelopment of this historic Grade II listed house, stable block, lodge and landscape. The landscape proposals created a new and enduring series of gardens, befitting of the house. The design focused on expressing the ornate detailing found within the building interior into the formal gardens and terraces, complemented with contemporary planting and high quality natural materials.

Wyndham Street, Newport

GLA in collaboration with Nash Partnership, were appointed to masterplan a mixed use redevelopment of brownfield within the city centre and on the banks of the River Usk. The proposals seek to establish a new landscape corridor along the River Usk for existing and potential wildlife, create a public realm setting for the buildings and provide a new destination with the riverside park and gardens, with better links to the city centre.

GLA are working with developers to provide a landscape led masterplan for up to 300 homes. In response to National Landscape Classifications, the proposals reflect a clear and robust approach of providing definition between the urban and rural edge and integrating sensitive boundary treatments.

GLA are part of the design team to deliver a mixed-use development at Roseberry Place, Bath. Located within the designated Bath City Riverside Enterprise Area, we aim to create a new riverside development that delivers the client's aspirations for an urban mixed-use development, while through design themes and material choices we will respect and take inspiration from the World Heritage City of Bath.

We were invited by a private client to masterplan their estate as part of the renovation and diversification of an existing farm and farmhouse. The farmhouse is Grade II listed and the enclosed gardens are within the curtilage of the listing. The proposals include a new sweeping drive and parkland landscape, new walled gardens, restoration of existing orchard, gardens and terraces, and the creation of new contemporary courtyard spaces.

GLA was asked by Caohejing to review a district in Shanghai and prepare initial thoughts of a “new vision” for the public realm. We proposed various temporary and permanent interventions to restore harmony and balance within a functional, biodiverse landscape canvas. These included an additional layer of commercial offer, public realm facilities, heritage and cultural assets, and new public spaces to accommodate pop up cafes, kiosk, internet stations and parklets.

GLA developed the masterplan for the gardens and grounds as part of the renovation of this Historic Manor house. The key principles from the landscape strategy were to: rediscover elements of the Victorian garden; restore the southern gardens, orchard and woodland; ensure a legacy of tree planting; reveal decorative features of the garden; and, create a new contemporary garden to enhance the southern elevation of the manor house.

We have supported the design team for the redevelopment of Monkey Island Hotel in Bray-on-Thames. The prominence and stature of this once great attraction is to be revived. The new hotel masterplan explores better use of the islands and estate, the repair and restoration of the Grade 1 listed pavilions, the provision of new accommodation and spa facilities, and enhancements to the landscape setting.

GLA work with Zero C in conjunction with the Homes and Communities Agency to design and construct a custom build residential development at Trumpet Junction. The development includes 122 new homes, a new park, community-driven public realm spaces and streets, and a habitat creation area.
